US approves $8.5bn IBCS-enabled Patriot sale to Denmark
The US Department of State has given its approval for a potential $8.5bn foreign military sale (FMS) of Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS)-enabled Patriot and accompanying equipment to Denmark.
The Danish government looks to procure a suite of defence assets, including 36 Patriot MIM-104E guidance enhanced missiles-tactical (GEM-T) and 20 PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles .

Two each of AN/MPQ-65 radar sets, Engagement Control Stations (ECS), Radar Interface Units (RIU) modification kits, IBCS Engagement Operations Centers (EOCs), IBCS Integrated Collaborative Environments (ICE) and two Electrical Power Plants III (EPP III) are also included in the sale.
The package also includes six units each of Patriot M903A2 launching stations, IBCS Software Launcher Integrated Network Kits and six IBCS integrated fire control network relays, test equipment and other related elements of logistics and programme support.
RTX, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman are selected as the primary contractors for this sale.
The implementation process will necessitate periodic visits by US government and contractor personnel to Denmark over a span of up to seven years for support purposes.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of the potential sale.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a Nato Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.
“The proposed sale will improve Denmark’s capability to meet current and future threats by increasing its combat capability. Denmark will use these munitions to defend Nato Allies and its partners,” DSCA said in a statement.
Earlier in June, Denmark’s Ministry of Defence announced intentions to purchase short-range air defence systems from international companies MBDA, Diehl Defence, and Kongsberg Gruppen for over DKr6bn ($919m).
Denmark plans to invest approximately DKr14bn to enhance military capabilities in the Arctic and North Atlantic regions.
