Allison to supply 3040 MX transmission for Poland’s Borsuk IFV

Poland has selected Allison Transmission to supply its 3040 MX cross-drive transmissions for the nation’s Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) programme.
Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Allison Transmission designs and produces conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion systems for tactical wheeled and tracked defence vehicles.
The company’s 3040 MX cross-drive transmission is based on Allison’s X300 propulsion system, which has been integral to the drivetrains of European CV90 and Warrior IFVs for more than three decades.
The 3040 MX transmission is claimed to deliver better manoeuvrability due to high-speed reverse capabilities and integrated steering. It also offers improved acceleration and fuel efficiency.
The transmission is designed with operational upgrades such as increased reliability and advanced electronic controls with integrated diagnostics, representing an advancement in military vehicle propulsion technology.
Allison Transmission defence programme vice president Dana Pittard said: “The 3040 MX brings Allison’s proven durability, reliability, performance and innovation to the medium tracked vehicle segment, and to Poland’s indigenously designed and produced Borsuk IFV.
“Allison values its partnership with Poland, and we’re extremely honoured to play a key role in supporting their defence initiatives.”
This contract follows the memorandum of understanding signed between Allison and Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) in 2023 regarding cooperation on tracked vehicle programmes and the expansion of Allison’s authorised service network within Poland.
Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), a PGZ subsidiary, is part of the consortium tasked with manufacturing over 1,400 Borsuk tracked vehicles in the next ten to 15 years.
The Borsuk, named after the Polish word for ‘Badger,’ is an amphibious tracked vehicle operated by a three-person crew.
It is intended to replace the older BWP-1 vehicles within the Polish military’s IFV fleet.
Since 2017, prototypes of the Borsuk have undergone testing and validation processes, culminating in a 2023 agreement between the Polish Ministry of Defence and HSW.
In April 2025, Allison Transmission was selected by the Indian army to provide its 3040 MX propulsion solution for all three government-supported original equipment manufacturers participating in India’s Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) prototype competition.
