This move comes after the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Technical Arrangement, confirming its membership in the multinational CAVS programme.
Initiated in 2020, CAVS programme aims to deliver a unified 6×6 armoured vehicle solution that caters to the collective needs of its member nations, which now includes Denmark, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
The Patria 6×6 is a modular and durable vehicle designed for protected troop transport, offering high performance and mobility. It can be configured for different roles.
This teaming agreement comes after Babcock signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Patria in January 2025 to propose the latter’s 6×6 APC model for UK armed forces.
The new agreement also enables Babcock to broaden its operations within the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport to meet all UK build requirement for the APC and support the British Army’s export goals as outlined in the Land Industrial Strategy (LIS).
The LIS outlines the collaboration framework for the Army, MOD, and industry partners to maximise the value from investment in Army modernisation and transformation.
Babcock Land Sector CEO Tom Newman said: “We welcome the UK Ministry of Defence’s decision to join the CAVS programme – with the 6×6 proven to be a highly capable troop carrier which has been backed by multiple armed forces across Europe.
“We are proud to be working with Patria as their official build partner on the 6×6 – and as a strategic partner of the British Army, we are perfectly positioned to deliver a large fleet of formidable, proven armoured personnel carriers, backed by a comprehensive training and support package.”
Babcock’s total revenue reached £4.83bn ($6.6bn) in the fiscal year ending 31 March 2025, marking an organic growth of 11% from the previous year.
