Hanwha Aerospace will work together with WITU on various elements of ammunition technology including the design, testing, production, management, and life-cycle analysis of ammunition and propellants for Modular Charge Systems (MCS).
The collaboration will entail joint qualification testing of 155mm ammunition for use by the Polish Armed Forces, development of research methodologies, life-cycle testing programmes, and fostering joint R&D projects to bridge academia and industry.
Hanwha Aerospace PGM Business Group head Billy Boo Hwan Lee said: “I am confident that our joint initiatives in R&D and scientific exchange will strengthen our mutual capabilities and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for security and defence. As a key supplier to the Polish Armed Forces, Hanwha Aerospace views this cooperation as an opportunity to exchange and develop knowledge and best practices.”
This strategic alliance is pivotal in advancing Poland’s self-sufficiency in the defence sector, said Hanwha.
It establishes a foundation for sovereign production capacity, ensuring a reliable supply of ammunition for Poland’s self-propelled howitzers and positions Poland as a key hub for ammunition production within Europe and Nato, the company stated.
WITU director colonel Paweł Sweklej said: “This agreement opens up new possibilities for joint R&D projects and will materially strengthen Poland’s defence capabilities by building sustainable synergy with international partners.”
Additionally, on MSPO’s opening day, Hanwha Aerospace reached an agreement with WB Group, to localise production of CGR-080 guided for the Homar-K multiple launch rocket system utilised by the Polish Armed Forces.
This agreement follows a joint venture created by the two parties in April 2025 to manufacture guided missiles for the Homar-K multiple rocket launch system.
