US Army selects L3Harris for $24m NGC2 data devices
The US Army has awarded L3Harris Technologies a $24m contract for the provision of software-defined data devices, designed to bolster the transport layer of the Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) system.
L3Harris is set to supply the Army’s 4th Infantry Division with the newly developed AN/PRC-158C NGC2 Gateway Manpack, ahead of their planned involvement in Project Convergence 2026.

L3Harris communication systems president Sam Mehta said: “The Army’s NGC2 programme is too important to accept anything less than success in execution, including system protection against device compromise, external threats to the network and data spillage.
“We are the only industry partner delivering battle-proven, software-defined radio technology that meets the Department of War’s appetite for high-data throughput with the network security, resilience and integrity required to ensure battlespace supremacy against any enemy daring to test America’s military might.”
The AN/PRC-158C data device is engineered to meet the high-data throughput requirements essential for establishing a robust data fabric for NGC2 operations.
It offers multiple transport options, ensuring resilience and interoperability across a range of scenarios from NATO engagements to Homeland Security operations.
Besides NGC2, L3Harris has already supported the Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form Fit (HMS) programme.
In January 2025, the company secured a $300m contract to supply next-generation HMS radios to the US Army.
This was preceded by another order to the company from the US Army, valued at $263m, for the ongoing production of the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular.
